Chinese thinking is in reality rather than overlaying it. It encourages involvement rather than the explanation. It cares neither concept, nor absolute and eternal truth. Ideograms are figures which talk to the imagination. The coupling and movement characterize this synthetic, dynamic and fluid thinking. Chinese boxing (Taijiquan) and the game of Go establish a harmony with the opponent instead of directly facing-off as it is the case in the European boxing or chess. "Being in harmony with his opponent" is a very strange way of looking at the antagonistic relationship!
The lack of dogmatism as well as a strong cosmological component characterizes Taoism. Indeed, throughout its history, it has continued to be transformed by welcoming new and different external currents. Without losing its uniqueness, it has continually regenerate itself. |
